The Preemie Project has been brewing in my heart since I started my business in 2017. This year, I've decided to put my vision to action, and document a series of stories capturing NICU preemie babies and their families.

When our 3rd baby, Jacob, was born prematurely (at 28 weeks), our lives were changed forever in so many ways. One of those twists of fate involved me finally deciding to pursue my dream to become a professional photographer.

Jake spent 71 days in the NICU. We had two other small children aged 5 and 2 at the time, and that NICU stay put more financial and emotional strains on our family than we could have ever prepared for in advance. The entire stay was a whirlwind, and I struggle to remember much of it. One of my greatest regrets during our stay was not taking more pictures, or hiring someone to take them for us. It was not something we even considered at the time, and as a result, much of our history there is saved only in our failing memories and selfie-style iphone photos.

I want to give families going through a similar situation to ours the opportunity to document their NICU experience with images that help to preserve their stories. Stories that include the beauty of new life, the heart-wrenching emotion, fear, grit, but more than anything else the unconditional love that all-encompasses a parent as they watch their babies in those hospital beds, fighting for their lives.
